What defines Trap music production?
Three signature elements: the Roland TR-808 sub-bass drum (or a digital recreation) pitched to play actual bass notes, hi-hat patterns built on triplets and 16th-note subdivisions, and a tempo usually between 130–175 BPM. The 808 is both rhythm and melody, carrying the tune through pitch movement. The name comes from Atlanta drug trade slang, the "trap house", which ran through early trap rap lyrics.
What is the difference between trap and EDM trap?
Original trap (T.I., Young Jeezy, Gucci Mane) is hip-hop, rooted in Atlanta street culture and built on the drum machine template. EDM trap borrowed the rhythmic vocabulary of 808 bass and triplet hi-hats for festival contexts: higher BPM, electronic synth leads, and a drop structure taken from dubstep. They are now quite distinct. EDM trap is built for crowds; original trap is built for headphones and cars.
