Most of the catalogue keeps the classic shape (long build, euphoric breakdown, hard drop), but the underground releases put synthesis and sound design ahead of formula. What is the difference between trance and progressive trance?
Standard trance (uplifting, hard trance) follows a set structure: intro, build, breakdown with sustained chords, euphoric peak, outro. Progressive trance evolves gradually without the hard breakdown-and-drop formula. The energy builds through layering rather than tension and release. Progressive trance usually runs 128–132 BPM; harder trance runs 138–145.
Which trance labels should I know?
Armada Music and Black Hole Recordings cover the commercial end. Anjunabeats (Above & Beyond) sits between commercial and underground. And a lot of the most respected trance producers now release independently or on boutique labels outside the traditional trance industry.
