About Dubstep.
Dubstep on Droploud is mostly post-brostep. Artists working closer to the original Croydon tradition of half-time rhythms, sub-bass pressure, and sparse midrange than to American monster drops. The underground credibility comes from the sound system heritage: bass designed for rigs that cost more than studio equipment, calibrated for physical impact rather than headphone clarity.
The original dubstep school (Skream, Benga, Digital Mystikz, Mala) used the bass wobble as a compositional device, a slowly evolving low-frequency texture that changed character across a seven-minute track. Not a crowd-pleasing stunt. The independent artists on Droploud work in that tradition, with the sub-bass doing the structural heavy lifting.

What is the difference between original dubstep and "brostep"?
Original UK dubstep (roughly 2002–2009) runs at 140 BPM with a half-time feel, leans on sub-bass pressure and space, and puts atmosphere over crowd impact. "Brostep" is the American commercial variant that Skrillex and others made huge: faster feel, aggressive distorted mid-bass instead of sub-bass, and a drop-first structure built for festival crowds. The two share a 140 BPM heritage and almost nothing else in production philosophy.
What is the "Croydon sound" in dubstep?
The "Croydon sound" is the south London dubstep scene built around Skream, Benga, Loefah, and Digital Mystikz in the mid-2000s. Sparse, dark arrangements, strong sub-bass, and a deep dub influence: melancholic, spacious, made for sound system environments. The DMZ club night and the Deep Medi Musik label were its epicentres.
