What is Nu Disco and how does it differ from original disco?
Original disco in the 1970s was made by live studio musicians: orchestral arrangements, real bass playing, ensemble recording. Nu Disco rebuilds that sound with modern tools, from synthesised strings and sample libraries to digital mixing, while deliberately keeping the analogue warmth and arrangement depth of the originals. The tempo usually sits at 118–122 BPM, same as the original disco range.
Is Nu Disco making a comeback?
It never really left. Nu Disco has held a steady underground presence since around 2005. Its fingerprints on current pop (Post Malone, Dua Lipa's "Future Nostalgia" era, Kylie Minogue's recent work) keep the aesthetic in commercial circulation. Meanwhile the underground runs continuously in parallel: labels like Eskimo Recordings, Gomma, and Disco Halal release regularly.
